BREAKFAST
Four Gables is a proud member of the DeliciouslYorkshire Breakfast scheme: daily
breakfast specials reflect David and Anne’s commitment to using local ingredients,
including many of their own production, and also Anne’s background from the US.
David and Anne are health conscious, and Anne’s style of cooking reflects that.
Some of it is just common sense: seasonal, fresh food of the best quality, organic
whenever possible. Anne does use butter - but in small quantities. Bacon, sausage
and tomatoes are grilled (broiled, if you’re American); you’ll have to ask for
fried bread and black pudding, but they are available. The cream is fat-reduced.
Coffee, tea and sugar is Fair Trade and organic whenever possible. It may interest you to know that Anne makes over 200 jars of jam per year, using
fruit from David’s garden as well as wild cherries and blackberries that they
pick in secret locations. She also makes over 50 pounds of orange marmalade (no,
the oranges are not from the garden) and bakes approx. 100 tea breads per year.
She began entering some of these in the nearby Tockwith Agricultural Show 3 years
ago and has won a number of 1st and 2nd place prizes – as well as a trophy - each
year, including a "Best Preserve in Show" award in 2007. Their hens’ eggs won
Best in Show in 2005!
David and Anne hope you will enjoy eating their prize-winning breakfast as much
as they’ve enjoyed preparing it.
