First Wild Orchid

First Wild Orchid

David spotted this while he was out cycling last weekend, and we went back to take this photo:  the first wild orchid of the season, spotted on a verge.  It’s a pyramidal orchid.  According to Wikipedia:  “Anacamptis pyramidalis, the pyramidal orchid, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Anacamptis of the family Orchidaceae.”  All we can add to that is, it sure is special to see these lovely flowers growing wild in Yorkshire!
